CONTINENCE CARE

World Continence Week 21-27 June 2021

World Continence Week

As part of World Continence Week (21 - 27 June 2021) we would like to highlight the impact urinary incontinence can have on our lives and encourage those living with incontinence to seek help... please don't suffer in silence!

If you have the following symptoms you may like to start monitoring your bladder:

  • Leaking when you cough or laugh
  • Frequently visiting the toilet day or night
  • Have difficulty peeing when you go to the toilet

Get a free 'Bladder Diary' today

Keeping a bladder diary to keep track of your daily urinary habits can help your healthcare professional better understand your symptoms of a sensitive bladder. It might identify the causes of your bladder control and help you get the right treatment to manage your condition.

This three day diary will give a picture of how your bladder is working and an idea of your fluid intake, the amount of urine your bladder can hold and how often you go to the toilet.

Tips for living with urinary incontinence:

  • Stop or reduce caffeine & alcohol intake.
  • Reduce consumption of high-acidity drinks.
  • Stop smoking as nicotine and other toxins can be bladder irritants.
  • Lose weight if you are overweight, as this puts pressure on the pelvic floor.
  • Avoid clothing that is tight around the tummy.
  • Empty your bladder prior to intense physical activity.
  • Wear free and easy-to-remove clothing to avoid difficulty when you are ready to go.
  • Train your pelvic floor muscle.
